Chapter 2
God and The Holy Trinity
The great monotheistic statement of Deuteronomy 6:4 clearly declares:
“Hear. O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!”
GOD is GOD! There is but one, and only one, living and true GOD. Through HIS self-disclosure
via HIS Holy Scripture, we are taught that HE is invisible and infinite both in HIS
Being and in HIS perfections. HE is both immanent and transcendent, both a transcendent
SPIRIT and a personal SPIRIT. GOD’S essence is pure perfection and absolute goodness.
None but HE can comprehend or understand HIS essence. GOD is eternal and incomprehensible.
HE is pure SPIRIT and without body, human parts or the temperamental feelings of
humans. Immortality is HIS alone to possess, HE is changeless and abides in overwhelming
light that to mortal man is too bright to view. GOD is incomprehensible, eternal,
infinite, almighty, most free and most absolute. HE is, of Himself, most grand beyond
all of our conceptions, perceptions, impressions and notions. All holy and all wise
is HE, Who works all things according to the eternal, immutable, and incorruptible
counsel of HIS righteous will. HE causes all things to be ultimately worked out to
HIS glory. HE is love. Grace, mercy and compassion are HIS; in HIM they are coupled
with justice, rule and law. HE forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; HE rewards
those who diligently seek HIM. HE hates sin; HIS judgment is both terrible and just.
HE will not disregard sin or spare the self-condemned sinner.

All life, goodness, glory, and blessedness are in HIM and of HIM. GOD, alone, is
all-sufficient. HE does not stand in need of any of HIS creatures that HE has created.
HE does not derive any glory from them, but only reveals HIS glory in, by, through
and upon them. GOD is the Head-Spring of all being, essence and life and is the genesis,
conduit, avenue, consummation and end of all things. HE is the sovereign LORD over
all things, to do by them, for them, through them and to them all that HE pleases
to do. All things are open before HIM; HIS eyes perceive the very depth of man’s
heart. Consequently, HIS knowledge is infinite and infallible; HIS knowledge is not
contingent upon any created thing or human being. HE is most holy in all of HIS counsels,
requirements, actions and decisions. To HIM is due all worship and praise from all
HIS creation, and whatever else HE may demand from angels and mankind.

Three divine Persons of one substance, power, and eternity, embody the blessed GODHEAD:
GOD in the Person of the FATHER, GOD in the Person of the SON, GOD in the Person
of the HOLY SPIRIT. The FATHER owes HIS Being to none. The SON is eternally begotten
of the FATHER. The HOLY SPIRIT eternally proceeds from both the FATHER and the SON.
These Persons, one infinite, eternal and matchless GOD, while not to be divided with
respect to their Being, are distinguished in Holy Scripture by their respective personalities
and their unique callings and individual responsibilities. In Holy Scripture they
are all called God, called Creator, indwell in the believer, and are acknowledged
as the Lifegiver. Their Tri-unity is the essential basis of both the believer’s fellowship
with GOD and the life and comfort we derive from our dependence on the One, True
GOD.
